Valuation rolls are great for genealogy and researching the history of your house. Valuation rolls were collected annually from 1854 to 1989. For each property in Scotland they record the name and designation of the proprietor, the tenant, the occupier and the annual rateable value. They do not list any other residents in a property.
I hope you find the valuation roll for Dumfriesshire (1896-97) that we a putting on-line helpful. For ease of access we are uploading them as PDF files but as they are quite large files those without broadband may struggle to view the images. If this is the case please contact us for other possibilities.
Please note that for Annan the files are of the landward part of Annan parish, the burgh or town section is in a separate volume.| Caerlaverock |
