Scottish Ephemera

The purpose of this section of our website is to help people around the world add to their Scottish family tree. Sometimes genealogy gives you the bones but you don’t know much about the people. You don’t know what people where like in Scotland at that time. On this page you will find interesting glimpses into the past, little titbits to add to your family tree. This is the ephemera page, the definition of ephemera is “transitory written and printed matter not intended to be retained or preserved”. This means that by the very nature of the material not much remains so we should value all the more what we do have! I hope you find these documents interesting even if they do not relate to your family.

Gretna Letter Very socially interesting letters. Two letters sent from Annan on June 1873 regarding Mrs Mary Cron or Scott, wife of John Scott Riggfoot, Graitney (Gretna). It would seem Mary has been in receipt of benefit from the Parochial Board and now that she has inherited money from her sister it is being requested she pays it back.
