Valuation rolls are great for genealogy and researching the history of your house. Valuation rolls were collected annually from 1854 to 1989. For each property in Scotland they record the name and designation of the proprietor, the tenant, the occupier and the annual rateable value. They do not list any other residents in a property.
We hope you find the valuation roll for Dumfriesshire (1896-97) helpful. Please note that the burghs of Annan, Dumfries and Sanquhar were listed in a separate volume which we do not have, so only the landward parts of those parishes are in this volume. For ease of access they are in the form of PDF files but as they are quite large files those without broadband may struggle to view the images. If this is the case please contact us for other possibilities.
